Weather Related School Closings and Delays

In the case of bad weather, please check radio and TV stations and listen for either Michigan City or LaPorte School closings or delays. With Renaissance in the limits of LaPorte and in the Michigan City Area Schools district, we must follow both school systems weather closings.  Weather related announcements are posted on WEFM 95.9, WSBT-AM 960, SUNNY 101.5, Oldies 94.3, WHFB 99.9, and television stations WSBT Channel 22, and WNDU Channel 16.

School Closings

If Michigan City or LaPorte Schools are closed for bad weather, so is Renaissance Academy. Do not bring children in at all.

Text Alerts

You can sign up for text announcements of closing and delays. Go to and click on WSBT Alert in the top bar. Fill in your information and scroll down to School Closing 7g where you need to check both Michigan City Area Schools and LaPorte Community School Corporation Schools

Our primary concern is your safety. Keeping that in mind, use your best judgment – your child will not be marked late if weather conditions keep you from arriving on time. Absences can be waived.

Snow Day Work

Students are expected to keep up with learning on snow days. As always Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic are the fundamentals and that should be the focus every day. Teachers will keep students informed of specific expectations; as a start, on snow days students should: keep up with assignments and read ahead for reading group, continue with a math lesson a day or write their own practice problems if they don’t have a book, and write an essay (as they practice in school).
